Albert Tour 2000 - the set lists

This is a general over view of the set lists from the Albert Tour 2000 tour. If you want exact details for a specific show please go search in the reviews.

The South American shows saw the set change a few times, as the band tried to make everything fit together. Playing to huge sports arenas is very different to the Royal Albert Hall and some venues were not very well suited for classical music.

The South American set lists:

1. Symphony orchestra opening
2. "Pictured Within" sung by Miller Anderson
3. "Sitting In A Dream" sung by Ronnie James Dio
4. "Love Is All" sung by Ronnie James Dio
5. "Fever Dreams" sung by Ronnie James Dio
6. "Rainbow In The Dark" sung by Ronnie James Dio
7. "Via Miami" sung by Ian Gillan
8. "That's Why God Is Singing The Blues" sung by Ian Gillan
9. "Wring That Neck"
Intermission.
10. "Concerto For Group And Orchestra"
11. "Ted The Mechanic"
12. "Watching The Sky"
13. "Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming"
14. "Pictures Of Home"
Encore:
15. "Smoke On The Water" sung by Ian Gillan and Ronnie James Dio

As the tour progressed the set was shuffled around and the "Concerto" was moved up earlier in the set:

1. "Concerto For Group And Orchestra"
Intermission.
2. "Pictured Within" sung by Miller Anderson
3. "Wait A While" *
4. "Sitting In A Dream" sung by Ronnie James Dio
5. "Love Is All" sung by Ronnie James Dio
5. "Fever Dreams" sung by Ronnie James Dio
6. "Rainbow In The Dark" sung by Ronnie James Dio
7. "Via Miami" sung by Ian Gillan
8. "That's Why God Is Singing The Blues" sung by Ian Gillan
9. "Wring That Neck"
10. "Fools"
11. "Ted The Mechanic"
12. "Pictures Of Home"
13. "Watching The Sky"
14. "Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming"
Encore:
15. "Smoke On The Water" sung by Ian Gillan and Ronnie James Dio
16. "Black Night"
17. "Highway Star"

"Fools" and "Black Night" were first added at the third São Paulo show and "Highway Star" was first done at the second show in Mexico. Neither "Black Night" nor "Highway Star" became permanent additions.

* "Wait A While" appears to have been performed only once, but we have no information of who sang it. Can you help?

In South America Deep Purple worked with a new orchestra in every country. When they reached Europe they had the opportunity to work with the same orchestra for a longer period and thus were able to rehearse a few more songs. They included mind blowing orchestral versions of "When A Blind Man Cries" and "Perfect Strangers" in the set. At the beginning of the tour Deep Purple were still doing "Fools" without the orchestra. However, Jon Lord and Paul Mann were said to have been working on an orchestra score for "Fools". Apparently this never came through.

The European set list:

1. "Pictured Within" sung by Miller Anderson
2. "Sitting In A Dream" sung by Ronnie James Dio
3. "Love Is All" sung by Ronnie James Dio
4. "Fever Dreams" sung by Ronnie James Dio
5. "Rainbow In The Dark" sung by Ronnie James Dio
6. "Wring That Neck"
7. "Fools"
8. "When A Blind Man Cries"
9. "Ted The Mechanic"
10. "Watching The Sky"
11. "Guitar String"
12. "Pictures Of Home"
13. "Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming"
14. "Concerto For Group And Orchestra"
15. "Perfect Strangers"
Encoire 1:
16. "Smoke On The Water" sung by Ian Gillan and Ronnie James Dio
Encore 2:
17. "Black Night"
18. "Highway Star"

Throughout the European leg there were very few variations. In Hell, Norway Norwegian fiddle player Annbjørg Lien guested onstage with a Norwegian piece called "Fanitullen" ("Devil's Dance"), which apparently had Steve sweating to keep up! :-) "Watching The Sky" was only done at some shows, perhaps to make up for when parts of the "Concerto" were left out. At the beginning of the leg "Smoke On The Water" was the only encore. The other encores were introduced later and generally appeared more often as the tour progressed.

The Latvia and Belarus set lists without the orchestra:

The last two dates in Riga, Latvia and Minsk, Belarus were done without the orchestra and thus featured more 'ordinary' Deep Purple set lists. We don't have accurate details, but songs played include:

"Woman From Tokyo"
"Pictures Of Home"
"Bloodsucker"
"Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming"
"'69"
"Watching The Sky"
"Fools"
"Ted The Mechanic"
"Fireball"
"Smoke On The Water"
"When A Blind Man Cries"
"Black Night"
"Perfect Strangers"
"Speed King"
Encores:
"Lazy"
"Highway Star"

One report mentioned "No No No", but we need confirmation, please?!

Check out the musicians page to find out who was in the George Enescu Romanian Orchestra on the European dates and to see a detailed run down of who played what on which songs in Europe. Thanks to Lars Wortmann.

Comments and corrections are very welcome.
