It was recorded live - that is, without overdubs as we wanted to reproduce the sound we used to get on stage."

Rod Evans auditioned for Roundabout and took Paice with him. Blackmore remembered having seen Paice in Hamburg and wanted him in the group. Thus their then-current drummer Bobby Woodman was asked to go buy some cigarettes after which they quickly locked the door behind him - and let Paice audition. Both Rod Evans and Ian Paice got new jobs. As Roundabout, they toured Scandinavia in April before changing their name to Deep Purple.

Concerto For Group And Orchestra

Lord's Concerto was performed live at the Royal Albert Hall on 24 September 1969, by Deep Purple (with two brand new members, Gillan and Glover) and the RPO conducted by Malcolm Arnold. The event was televized (in the UK and Denmark), recorded and released on both album and video (slightly edited). It gave Deep Purple a huge marketing.

Paice does some banging for George Harrison on "Poor Little Girl", "Cockamanie business" and "Cheer down", all recorded during 1989, and claimed to appear on the soundtrack to Lethal Weapon II. The tracks eventually ended up as extra material on a compilation with previously released tracks.

Paice drums on a McCartney & Friends album. It contains mostly covers of well-known rock'n'roll classics, recorded during March. They later appeared live doing material from this album. One appearance was on 18th September 1999 at a PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) party in Los Angeles. They later re-appeared during November on Jool Holland's show "Later With Jools Holland" on the UK TV channel BBC2.

Jon Lord's Concerto

Lord's Concerto was performed live at the Royal Albert Hall on 25th and 26th September 1999 - 30 years after it's premiere performance. The main performers were the London Philharmonics together with Deep Purple Mk VII. In addition, there were lots of guest appearances by a variety of rock celebrities. The entire performance is available on CD, Video and DVD.

McCartney & Band have continued appearing live. Once on a German TV show called "Wetten, dass...?" during December 1999. They played a track called "No Other Baby". They also played the Cavern Club in Liverpool, which was broadcasted by Radio 2.

As some of fund raising event due to Ashton's previous illness which he's been recovering from as well as a tribute to the oustanding skills of the man himself, a whole range of celebrities, including Jon Lord and Ian Paice who's worked with Tony Ashton on several occasions (see previous entries), got together for a concert-cum-concert at Abbey Road Studios.
