It was recorded live - that is, without overdubs as we wanted to reproduce the sound we used to get on stage."

Blackmore remembered having seen Paice in Hamburg and wanted him in the group. Thus their then-current drummer Bobby Woodman was asked to go buy some cigarettes after which they quickly locked the door behind him - and let Paice audition. Both Rod Evans and Ian Paice got new jobs. As Roundabout, they toured Scandinavia in April before changing their name to Deep Purple. |

Concerto For Group And Orchestra | |

Lord's Concerto was performed live at the Royal Albert Hall on 24 September 1969, by Deep Purple (with two brand new members, Gillan and Glover) and the RPO conducted by Malcolm Arnold. The event was televized (in the UK and Denmark), recorded and released on both album and video (slightly edited). It gave Deep Purple a huge marketing.

One appearance was on 18th September 1999 at a PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) party in Los Angeles. They later re-appeared during November on Jool Holland's show "Later With Jools Holland" on the UK TV channel BBC2.

Lord's Concerto was performed live at the Royal Albert Hall on 25th and 26th September 1999 - 30 years after it's premiere performance. The main performers were the London Philharmonics together with Deep Purple Mk VII. In addition, there were lots of guest appearances by a variety of rock celebrities.
