Don Airey...
was born in Sunderland, England. He started out with some classical training, before diverting his interests to popular music, like jazz, cabaret and rock. He formed his own jazz trio at the age of 13, and played with numerous local bands in and around Sunderland. He eventually graduated from Nottingham University and Royal Northern College of Music, after which he turned pro and began touring with his own band. |
