August 18 Montreal Show review

Well what a night it has been. The show started about 10 minutes early. Dream Theater put on a good 50 minute set. Can't say much as it was the first time I had heard them. Tight band though and were quite well received.
ELP ran up the clock at 1hour 15 minutes of pure enjoyment. They were nothing but brilliant. They also got in a really cool encore of 20 Century Schizoid Man/Fanfare for the Common Man. Very impressive.
Now on too Deep Purple. Since I have never been blessed with being able to see them before, I was very excited in seeing this show. I am originally from Nova Scotia and DP do not do that circuit. The show was very laid back. The band just casually walked on stage. It sort of set the mood for the night. The Molson Centre Theatre was the perfect venue for this show. The stage was modest. The sound was excellent. Ian's voice was on pretty good most of the night but started to fade near the end of the show. But to nobody's dismay. Everyone seemed to be genuinly into listening to the music. Steve Morse was phenomenal. I couldn't get enough of his fretboard frenzy.
Highlight of the night were the songs Perfect Strangers, Speed King,Watching the Sky and of course Hush which opened the show. Jon Lord you are still the master of the Hammond B3. All in all a great night. Hope the rest of the tour goes as well as tonight did.

Keep rocking,
Richard B.
