Deep Purple at Canandaigua Finger Lakes Performing Arts Center Aug 14th.
Dream Theater were excellent as always. Very agressive intense music, I only wished their set was a little longer. They played about 45-50 mins. ELP were actually a nice surprise,I knew they would be good having seen them many times in the past, technically brillant, and very entertaining as well, with a little humor from Keith Emerson. When it comes to keyboards, you don't get much better than Keith. Carl Palmer is an amazing drummer as well, one of the worlds best, he performed an awesome drum solo. And Greg Lake's vocals are excellent, with lots of power to shake the walls of the building. A very nice performance, they haven't lost their touch when it comes to performing live. Deep Purple also didn't dissapoint, putting on a superb show. The whole band were in top notch form, even Ian's vocals were in decent shape, though he can't hit the high notes like he used to. He also entertains and has some humor throughout the set. For example, trading vocals and guitar bits with Steve Morse. Ian also brought a young male on stage from the audience who boogied all over the stage during one song, this was a riot to watch. Steve Morse played his butt off and was excellent at what he does. He also appeared to be having a blast on stage playing with these talented guys. The whole band was spot on! To sum it up, its a great triple bill. One final comment on the show... I still miss Ritchie Blackmore. And this concert site is an amazing place to see a show...if you've never been here, it's a must see.
