Deep Purple - Jones Beach, Sun. August 9, 1998
Following a long boring set by ELP, Purple came out to Hush with Gillan's voice totally shot. The sound was incredible for any band coming off the stage, maybe because I sat dead center. They should really think about slowing down the tour schedule, Gillan's voice was so shot they got to a point to where they just mixed his voice way down in the PA so the band was louder, he couldn't even talk between songs, it was like watching an old boxer come out of retirement, don't get me wrong this was the most anticipated show of the summer, I had seen them once before with Morse at the Beacon in 96 and it was great, but this time I needed some BLACKMORE on stage.
