Phoenix Show Review by Desert Dog

Whether it was because the show was on a Monday or the sometimes overbearing security force, the DP Phoenix show was lacking just that extra spark to make it a truly spectacular night. It seemed to be IG who was having the tough start. The mike on his congas wouldn't work so he took it off and he was shaking his head "no" whenever he finished a lyric on the first couple of songs. But being the trooper he is, he rebounded nicely & hit about 98% of the notes. SM played flawlessly. It seems that the other guys are trying to showcase him a little to prove he can fill the spot of RB. I've caught him once before opening for Rush & this Dog doesn't need to be convinced. He brings a different feel to the band & as long as the other guys are willing to carry on, he is a welcome addition.
Overall, the crowd was fairly listless except for a few areas down front. The only time any real spark came over the whole crowd was during the well known songs. It might be time to add three or four favorites. But the band was tight & polished. We'll see what happens after some of the Latin America shows (PLEASE keep IG away from the Mescal). Here's the set list: Hush, Fireball, Ted the Mechanic, Picture's of Home, Black Night, Bloodsucker, Feel Like Screaming, Woman From Tokyo, Seventh Heaven, No One Came, Smoke, When a Blind Man Cries, Speed King with encores of Perfect Strangers & Highway Star. See ya on the road!!
