HOUSE OF BLUES
CHICAGO
DEC. 16/97
ATTENDANCE: 1,500 (a sellout)
Another super performance. Another night of the audience standing in
awe - grooving to the sights and sounds of the Purple machine in full
flight.
It's so hard to say whether this night was better than the first show,
but a couple of improvements were made on the mix for Jon's keyboards.
It was definitely better tonight. And I thought Ian sang Perfect
Strangers even better. Also, it was one of the best Highway Star
versions these ears have ever heard. I don't where else they can go to
reach that level of perfection, but it seems they attain another plateau
every time I have witnessed them.
It was an adrenaline rush that every Purple fan should have the
pleasure of experiencing.
The setlist (only change from Dec. 15th show was was RC replaced SIFLS
and that Steve's Cascades solo was different. Not to mention the intro
into SOTW):
Hush
Fireball
Into The Fire
Ted The Mechanic
Pictures Of Home
(Steve's Cascades solo)
Black Night
Bloodsucker
Rosa's Cantina
Woman From Tokyo
Seventh Heaven
No One Came
Smoke On The Water
(Jon's keyboard solo)
When A Blind Man Cries
Speed King
Encore
Perfect Strangers
Highway Star
Cheers,
Glen Miller
