Concert Review

Last Thursday (June 4th) I've been to the show in Napoli (Naples) and the following is a short rewiew of the concert. Deep Purple was the main set during a festival with many bands playing; the most famous were Gamma Ray (that I didn't like at all) and Primus (very interesting band, IMHO, with a great bass player and a lot of creativity).
Deep Purple started their concert 15 minutes before midnight and played for almost 1 hour and a half. I forgot to say that there were more or less 12.000 people (I read it on the newspaper the day after), really excited to see a legendary band palying again in Napoli after more than 20 years!

OK, now the set list (not in the right order):
Hush
Bludsucker
Strange kind of woman
Ted the mechanic
Almost Human
Woman from Tokyo
Pictures of Home
Watching the sky
Smoke on the water
Lazy
Evil Louie
Speed King

Encores:
Perfect Strangers
Highway star

I think that if it wasn't so late (they left the stage at around 1.15 a.m.) they could have played another 2 or 3 songs.

Anyway, great show with an incredible performance by Big Ian; I guess it's the 7th time I listen to him live, and he seems to be like a good wine: getting better with the years. Probably it also depends on the fact that Ritchie is far away....

What about the rest of the band? Roger and Little Ian made their part as usual, Jon Lord deserves a monument (spread a lot of great solos and organ work all over the concert) and Steve Morse played as he always do: incredible on a technical point of view, but with a lack of feeling (IMHO). My mind says that Deep Purple is better now than in the first 90s, but my heart is still waiting for Ritchie to come back with the other four....

I think that's all. Sorry for my poor english and for the delay of this posting, but I came back to Milano just yesterday night.

Ciao,
Costantino Scialla
