Bloody good job!
We travelled from Belgium for this concert - myself and my two boys, Peter aged 9 and Nicholas aged 14 - and made sure we were up front at the barrier. What a brilliant night! I'd seen DP at the Rainbow in London back in the 70s and was amazed that 30 years on, they are even better now. Steve Morse is more than a replacement for grumpy old Ritchie - he's far better - and such a joy to watch. Ian Gillan proved that he is still the greatest vocalist out there and Ian Paice's drum solo was an unexpected pleasure. Don Airey did a bloody good job, considering whom he was replacing! Steve and Ian gave him the support he needed - especially during "Lazy". Absolutely the ONLY disappointment was that they did not perform "Black Night". To sum up - Deep Purple really do show the young groups how to do things properly - they should take note! Oh, and thanks Ian and Steve for waving at Peter so often - he's as pleased as if he were given sixpence !
