The legend lives on!
Palasport was filled by about 6,000 people, waiting for the legend. Ian Gillan's voice was in better than expected condition, and he provided some quite good stuff; he even tried a dialogue with Morse's guitar during "Speed King", and the result was more than dignified. Ian made his show with the audience and he even sent away an over-excited fan. Just a little remark: Gillan forgot some words in "Fools" and "Highway Star". OK, it's a trifle, but I had to find something negative... Steve Morse was on a hot streak, and he caught his first wrong chord after an hour of music (that's maybe his record...) Unfortunately, the audience didn't fully understand his skill, and someone was bored by his great solos. Glover was also inspired and put in some good numbers and his bass work was, as usual, good. Paicey was really on fire and provided a REALLY great solo. If you closed your eyes, you'd have thought he was still young! Don Airey needs a separate praise: He's not Jon Lord, and we knew that, but he did his job at the grand piano. The wrong audio setting was chosen for the Hammond, because, when Airey played it fast, the organ produced just a great noise, and showed how Don was playing which was pretty hard. Definitely it was a great show! THE LEGEND LIVES ON!!! The only negative thing was the audience: It was full of kids with absolutely no knowledge of Deep Purple's music. They were jumpin' as if they were at a punk/ska show, or even at a disco.
