Roger Glover pumping up the ground
Setlist:
Black Night After two days in Dresden we arrived late in Mosbach, a nice little town near Heidelberg, just in heavy rain. Luckily the rain stopped after some time. Opening act was aprilDAZE, a young German band from Darmstadt. I only heard them from outside the Elzpark but they did a fine job I think. After them played an old hero, Roger Chapman, and he was just a disappointment. Good band, but a frontman without a working voice - it didnīt work. Deep Purple played the standard set and an unbelievably good concert without Jon Lord. They were even better than in Dresden. Roger Glover, especially, was incredible. He rushed over the stage, smiling just like Steve Morse, playing great bass parts; the bass sound was louder than it has been over the last few years and he seemed to be in a very good mood. Paicey played as well as ever, including a fine solo during the improvisations in "Speed King". Steve Morse dominated the sound with unbelievable guitar parts - another great concert by him. Don Airey did good work and seemed to be better integrated in the show from time to time. Ian Gillan was in a good mood, he started out with some problems but from "Mary Long" he sang beautifully. When he introduced Don Airey to the audience, he said that Jon Lord would be back "sooner or later". That sounded not too good. The highlights of the show were "Mary Long", "Fools", "Perfect Strangers" with great reactions from the audience, and "Highway Star" with loud singing from the audience. What a night!
