An evening we'll never forget
I just arrived home in Calgary. After 30 years of following my favorite band, I finally got to see Purple live in Toronto yesterday. I knew what to expect from the band, having seen most of the recent videos, and they exceeded every expectation I had. I thought I'd offer a perspective from my sister, who went with me and is not a Deep Purple fan. She did recognize all the songs (except Ted) and was very impressed by the musical talent, especially Ian Gillan's voice, still strong after all these years. The crowd was very enthusiastic, especially during "Smoke." We didn't bother staying for Lynyrd Skynyrd. After "Highway Star," anything would have been a major let-down and we didn't want to spoil the moment. Thanks Purple, for an evening we'll never forget.
