Deep Purple in Antwerp, 30 September 2000
I am 24 years old and saw Deep Purple for the first time since I discovered them 10 years ago. I expected a set with all their classics and a piece of their "Concerto For Group And Orchestra".
At 20:30pm they started right on time. Jon Lord came on stage with a sober "good evening" and started with "Pictured Within" followed by Ronnie James Dio. This was very nice. With songs like "Sitting In A Dream", "Love Is All", "Rainbow In The Dark" and "Fever Dreams".
At last, Ian Gillan entered the stage, they played only a few songs and then they started with "The Concerto". All 3 parts...it took 40 minutes...
They promised classic songs, but they didn't play them. Only one encore: A couple of well known riffs ("Purple Haze", "Whole Lotta Love" solo and "Iron Man") followed by "Smoke On The Water" and that was that...
They played 150 minutes. I am happy I saw Deep Purple, but next time I wanna hear all the classic songs.
Greetings,
