Rio de Janeiro 8/03 - Review
So, after 5 years, Deep Purple is back. The show was scheduled to begin at
22:30, I got into the Metropolitan at 20:30. The crowd was mixed between
teen and some old guys. The Manager told me that they sold 6.000
tickets. The band entered on stage at 22:30, and begin with Hush; the crowd
started to get crazy. As the show goes by, it seems to me that the band
enjoyed the crowd. The highlight was Steve, he is a great musician with
great solos. He is clean, cool and don't make acrobatics things like the
others, he is very simple and got the crowd into his pocket. I enjoyed him
very much. Jon Lord, in this show, stayed behind, with short solos and even
played samba. Roger and Paice were the Deep Purple backbone and Gillan is
the great Ian Gillan. Singing like the good old times. In the end, the
crowd started screaming Highway Star, and they started to play this song.
And Steve passed the test; it is a great responsibility to play this solo
like TMIB, but he did, with a incredible solo. What a incredible
performance. Hope to see them again in the future and pray for a live album
and a live video of this tour.
