Hi all Purple-heads, I've just come back from a week following Deep Purple in Sweden, I saw them in Falun, Stockholm, Umea, Timra and Uppsala. What a week that was!! I've gone by train, crashed on various floors and sofas, I thought I'd have to use those nice and comfy wodden benches at the stations, but fortunatly I never hadto.
I won't review each concert as they were pretty much the same apart from that they did "Bloodsucker" in Karlshamn and Falun, but "No One Came" on the others. The show in Falun was a bit special as it was located in a ski-stadium (I'm from the south, I've only seen those things, covered by snow, on telly!!).
The sound wasn't bad but not excellent either. Towards Timra and Uppsala they'd sorted it out more or less, but before that - as soon as IG stepped back behind his drums one couldn't hear him at all. One could just see him screaming... What a waste on such briliant voice!!!!
In Umea at least IG and SM hung out at the hotel afterwards, socializing with fans (and the others at the hotel nightclub). Myself I got a long chat with my alltime favorite singer/idol/hero/mentor etc Ian Gillan.
The only real backstage meeting was in Stockholm, with lots and lots of teenage-girls surrounding SM - they kinda reminded me of me and my friends 8 years ago, with a pass glued to a sweaty t-shirt.. Of course these girls disn't look anything like me, they all look like fashion models!!
A good thing about this tour in Sweden, despite the poor ticket-sales and people-attending, must be the selling of merchandise. In Karlshamn they run out of the shirts with Gillan on, when I came to Falun the "Purpendicular" shirt sold out and they couldn't get any more until Uppsala. The same destiny came for the Gillan shirt wich sold out in Umea. As anyone can figure there wouldn't have been any shirts if someone hadn't found some boxes with "Deep Purple Local Crew" t-shirts.
I've met a lot of nice people during this week, both fans and crew. I've loved every second of it, apart from the lack of sleep and screaming kids on the trains.
Well, my final concert of this tour wi'll be on Friday, in Halmstad. If you're there and see a longhaired female, in her 20's, crying... It just might be me. I don't want this tour to end ever.
Ozzie,
Lund Sweden
