Clive's Washington DC show review
Well, after nearly 9 years I get to see the Boys again.
It was worth it !!!!!
This is my review of the Concert in DC on 25/11/96 at the 930 club.
The doors were already open when we got there at around 7:25, great this
show
might run close to time, oh how I was going to rue these words :-(
After an hour, still no sign of the support band.
They hit the stage at about 8:40, it was a pity they didn't hit it running
and
kept on running. Shine was the groups name, they would be better replacing
the
'N' with a 'T'.
To begin with I thought they were Motorhead Wannabes, then Nirvana
Wannabes
anyway I wanted them anywhere but at the 930 club.
After playing for about 40 mins, they left, so by this time it was 9:20.
After
25 minutes the lights went down. I was sitting upstairs and noticed some
movement behind me, and there was Steve Morse walking past, guitar in
hand,
followed by Mr Gillan etc....
I am not going to include a set list, just make comments about some of the
numbers.
Maybe all, sorry but my memory ain't what it used to be.
- Hush
- Fireball , riff from Into The Fire (yes)
- Pictures Of Home
-
Three of my all time DP favourites. In fact Pictures of Home is my
alltime
favourite.
- Blacknight was a surprise
- Ted The Mechanic - rocked
- Cascades
- Some Time I Feel Like Drinking (sure did during the support band and
wait)
-
liked both of these , as good if not better than the album
Woman From Tokyo - still a classic, Steve played brilliantly
- Aviator - sorry still cannot get into this one
- No One Came
-
Morse and Glover moving in tandem, whats this ? :-)
- Smoke On The Water
- JL solo - liked the solo, having heard this so many times I wish they
would
play something else like ANYA !!!, but what is DP without SOTW
- When A Blind Man Cries
-
loved it !!
- Rosa's Cantina
- like it on the album, loved it live. Roger was great!!!
- Speed King
- hope your daughter doesn't have nightmares, wonderful
- Perfect Strangers
- Hey Cisco
- Highway Star
All solid, wish you would end Perfect Strangers abruptly, I feel
the
ending has
always been strange
The last time I saw them , they were clinical, this time it was great,
there
was fun, laughing interaction all those good things that should happen. I
can
immagine them playing the greats 25 years back, with the same vigour in a
place
similar to the 930 club.
- Roger Glover - still one of the best bassists around
- Ian Paice - still one of the best drummers around, liked the
solo, sorry you lost your stick.
- Jon Lord - played like the great he is
- Steve Morse - different to him who left, but I was really impressed
- Ian Gillan - vocals were far better than last time, still has it
Overall tremendous, great , fantastic
One disappointement, no ANYA, my friends wanted Lazy oh well, you cannot
have
everything
I do have a couple of small complaints , if you ever read this Rog and
Jon.
- if you have a support band , please get them on early, the
resultant
lateness made me miss my last train :-( as I couldn't leave. Also, we are
not
students anymore we have to get up for jobs :-( make sure you get on
before 9:50
- don't let the support band play to long
Thanks it was great !!!!!! See you next time
