A few words about Deep Purple. After such a long wait to see this band, all I can say is....incredible!!! I thought DP sans TMIB would not work but was I wrong. The band is extremely tight and are obviously having fun on stage.
Take Gillan for example. Shaking Morse's hand, hugging RG. Can you imagine this sort of thing happening with Ritchie. Not since the early days anyway, if at all. I have some 1970 footage (Doin their Thing' and TMIB is having fun, something that he wasn't having on CHHW). Even though I felt that the Toronto venue was an atrocious place to experience live music (albeit seeing them in a bar was something I had not ever imagined and being close was amazing), just seeing the guys having so much fun on stage was worth it. I'll never forget hearing Lord's organ intro to Perfect Strangers and having chills run up my spine. I closed my eyes and I was at Knebworth, Birmingham then snap...I am actually 50' away from the greatest rock group to ever grace a stage. Give me a shake. And hearing No One Came, it was 1971 all over again.. Speed King..1970 then the new stuff sounding excellent. Sometimes I feel like screaming was a real treat. All I can say now about a week since the main event is that what I witnessed was akin to near spiritual experience. Deep Purple will always be the Kings of Rock music. Music played the way it was meant to be. Full of emotion, feeling and enery. Thank you DP for a great gig and everlasting memories.
Rod In the Rock (but wishing he was following the tour)
