I will point out that Purpendicular is the only Purple album I have not
bought(I have it on tape). I had mixed feelings about seing Purple
without Ritchie. So finally I ended up at the show(I got free
tickets). They played the St-Denis Theatre in Montreal, it holds 2000
people, it was sold out. They started with Hush, this was a surprise,
great version, Gillan was in fine form and his voice sounded great(This
was not always case). Then they charged in to Fireball, it rocked.
everybody seamed to be in a good mood, this was the second show of the
tour, Steve Morse smiled through the whole show, his playing was
excellent! Ian paice kept the band in a groove. The new songs sounded
good but the crowd did not seem to recognise them. They played The
Aviator which slowed done the pace of the show( I really don`t like this
song). The highlight of the show was Morse & Lord trading licks during
speed king, this was amazing. I was surprised with the show, I ended up
liking it, but it is not the same without Ritchie, seing Purple without
Mr Blackmore is like seing Zeppelin without Jimmy Page.
Set List: Hush, Fireball,Ted the Mechanic,Pictures of Home,Black
Night,Cascades(guitar solo), Sometimes I feel like Sreaming(or drinking
as Gillan put it), Woman from Tokyo, The Aviator, Rosies Cantina, No One
Came, Smoke(organ solo), When a blind man cries, Speed king(drum solo)
Encores: Perfect Strangers, Hey Sisco, Highway Star.
