Deep Purple at the Meadows Music Theatre
Prior to the show Saturday night, I wasn't very familiar with lead
guitarist Steve Morse. Since the show, I'll never forget his mastery of
the guitar!! Deep Purple was at their best in their show in Hartford, CT
Saturday night at the Meadows.
They opened with the smash "HUSH", and the crowd of about 4,000
never sat down again. Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Jon Lord, Ian Paice and
Morse put on a show that will rank within the top 3 shows at the Meadows
this year. Steve Morse's guitar playing was spectacular, especially the
way he brought his own style to many of the tracks, including an awesome
version of "SMOKE". Keyboardist Jon Lord put on a powerful performance,
thundering out the sounds that made DP famous.
The band played a good hour and a half, and mixed up the show nicely
with a variety of older material and some new tracks off of
Purpendicular. Anyone who missed this show better get on the next train
to NYC.
The audience, complete with their purple scarves and even purple
hair was given quite a night out. Spoke with Johnny B. (of Red House
fame) after the show, in which he managed to catch one of I.P. drum
sticks, and he's going to the Beacon in NY to catch the show.
Keep on rockin'
