DP at the Rosemont (Chicago)
Just got back from seeing DP in Chicago. I feel like getting in the car and
driving to Ohio to see them again. My God, why did I wait 25 years to see
these guys. Every song blew me away. They played for about 2 hours. The
set list was pretty much the same as the other concerts on this leg. They
did change the order a somewhat. They opened with HUSH. I'm really glad
they added this to the list (Thanks Steve). Steve swapped guitars and
turned up the heat a little at the end of The Aviator. I thought for a
minute that an organ solo was going to turn into Lazy, but it was not to be.
They played some of my personal favorites (Perfect Strangers, Pictures of
Home, Screaming) and knocked me dead with them. I wanted some others like
Fools, Battle Rages On, Anya, and Hey Joe. I guess if they did everything I
wanted to hear they would have to play for 20 or 30 hours.
I am tickled to death with Steve Morse. I hope he stays Purple for a long,
long, time. He plays the old stuff as well as anybody ever has, and the new
stuff like nobody else can.
The acoustics at the Rosemont Horizon are not that good. I hope next year
(hint, hint) there is a fix for that.
So, when is the next album ? Keep it coming !
