Deep Purple's Chicago Show!
To sum it up in one simple word-----WOW!!! What a show!
I was in row # 2 with my son (age 10) and fiance. For both of them it was
their first time to see DP. I have seen them several times before, including
at the Texxas Jam in '85 and again last March in Ft. Lauderdale.
How happy all the band members seem to be on stage is what strikes me as the
biggest difference in watching them perform on stage. Roger Glover seems to
be getting better and better every time I see him. Steve seemed very timid
when I saw him in Lauderdale, but now seems very comfortable with his fellow
bandmates. Jon was, as usual his brilliant self! (Is there a better
keyboard player out there?) What was Blackmore thinking (smoking) when he
ripped Gillan? He was awesome!
Some of the highlights of the show included, Speed King, the guitar/keyboard
dueling was fantastic, Hey Cisco, which I had reservations about how it would
come accross live, Jon's solo during SOTW. My fiance Shannon loved The
Aviator & Rosa's Cantina and my son was singing and smiling during WFT.
WABMC was done beautifully!! What a solo from Steve!
After the show we headed backstage to visit with the band and other fans.
After visiting with Steve, who by the way hit on my fiance hard, we visited
with Big Ian and Roger for awhile. They are such great guys! Jon and Ian
never made it back!?
We are headed to Kalamazoo this evening to catch the show there. The venue
in Kalamazoo is much smaller (1600 capacity) compared to the Arena in
Chicago. I'm sure my ears will be painfully ringing, but what a worthy pain
to endure!
