Two weeks after Nummirock gig in Kauhajoki I found myself sitting on M/S Tallink on way to Tallinn. And I wasn't alone: never seen so many DP fans wearing DP-shirts on any kind of ship :-). The trip was about 3 hours and 30 minutes from Helsinki to Tallinn. Just a fine time to have few beers and to do some tax-free shopping.

I met some friends of mine at Hotell Stoomi where we went to "Finnish" sauna and relaxed. The weather was unstable with some sunshine and heavy rain showers. We had few beers for getting the "right mood" :-)

At 5 PM we left the Hotell for the concert area (about 5 km from us). There were some local bands playing when we arrived "Rock Onzert" area. We didn't pay much attention to the band's playing before Deep Purple. Again some heavy rain showers (also some swearing ;-) we waited and waited. I don't personally like Bad Religion but they "cleared the sky" during their set :-) and their singer announced that their job is to clear the sky for Deep Purple :-) It worked, no more raining.

After quite short soundcheck Purple started playing just after 10 PM.

Again this is not "correct" setlist but here are some songs at least. (Maybe somebody got the right one? Anybody ??)

  • Fireball
  • Ted The...
  • Pictures of home
  • Cascades
  • No one came ( Great version, first time seen live :-)
  • Black Night
  • Sometimes I feel like screaming
  • My woman from tokyo
  • Smoke
  • When a blind man cries (great singing Ian ! )
  • "An italian ballad" = Speed King ( again some amazing solos from Jon and Steve )

Encores:

  • Perfect Strangers
  • Hey Cisco ( better than on the album ;-), some power drumming from Ian, He gets better and better along the years.
  • Highway Star

Right after Purples set there was fine surprise for the audience: amazing fireworks !

The Sound was very good and loud :-) from the beginning (Big thanks to EastWay for this ! ) Big Ian's voice was just great. The band was relaxed and Big Ian announced than it was nice to end the "summer tour" on tallinn. Many thanks to the band. This gig was so fuc....good... have a nice vacation before hitting the road again 7 weeks later in Germany! (maybe I must visit germany at the same time :-)

We went to hotell with taxi and found out that all the bars were closed :-0.... So we went to bed (don't tell anybody :-)

Next morning we saw few friends and they told us that there were some party after the gig at Olympia Hotell. Ian Paice joined some local jamming group and jammed with them etc.. All the band members were seen there.

M/S Vana Tallinn left tallinn harbour at 2 PM with many satified fans onboard.

I believe that the order of the set was:

  • Fireball
  • Ted
  • Pictures of Home
  • Black Night
  • Cascades
  • SIFLS
  • Woman from Tokyo
  • No One Came
  • Smoke
  • When a Blind Man Cries
  • Speed King

Encore as you mentioned.
