Here are the songs DP played live as the Budokan on Thursday.
While technically brilliant, the concert somehow lacked feeling and emotion. This impression was not helped by the order the lads chose to play the songs. The Aviator is my favourite song from _|_. But to play it right after Woman from Tokyo, which really got the crowd going, seemed illogical. Personaly I think it would have been better after Pictures of Home.
However, Jon Lord was excellent as usual and Ian Gillan was able to sing, rather than scream, the songs. Highlights were Pictures of Home, Rosa, When a Bind Man Cries, and Speed King.
- Fireball
- Ted the Mechanic
- Pictures of Home
- (Extended guitar solo with Brian May-like use of echoplex)
- Black Night
- Cascades
- Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming
- Woman from Tokyo
- (This really got the crowd going...)
- Aviator
- Rosa's Cantina
- No One Came
- Smoke on the Water
- When a Blind Man Cries
- Speed King
Encore:
- Perfect Strangers
- Hey Cisco
- Highway Star
Overall a good balance of old and new songs. Steve Morse certainly brings a different feel to the band. Given the number of new songs in the set, he was able to express he originality during those songs and played the old songs as we've come to expect. Speed King can rarely have been played better, even by Ritchie 'is self.
Mark.
