Purple pleased me as usual.
Thin Lizzy played for a little over half an hour, and wasn't really very good. No Satriani on the Canadian leg I guess.
Deep Purple started the show in the dark and jumped right in. The show was excellent, including the sound - impressive considering the hall was an old hockey arena. There were a few little bits where the mix wasn't exactly right (Don was a little faded out a couple times).
Ian was his usually silly self, and it was clear that they were all having a good time, goofing with the folks in the front rows (I was near the back of the arena, alas).
The hall was pretty close to sold out, maybe 6000 in attendance. The crowd was good, but it was clear most hadn't heard the new album. Unfortunate that the sponsoring radio station's idea of Deep Purple songs are Kentucky Woman and Hush. [You go tell them! Rasmus]
The show in Vancouver in February was better, because of the whole Machine Head thing. I missed Lazy and Maybe I'm A Leo this time, as well as House of Pain from the new disc.
Seeing Purple twice on this tour after seeing them back in 97 with Purpendicular, I must say that Steve has really melded a lot more with the band (even though Don is new too).
All in all - Excellent. Wish I'd bought tickets to Edmonton too...
