Wife converts As a born again fan I've been lucky enough to see DP twice this year, first in Bournemouth and then last night in Portsmouth. I really enjoyed both concerts - I'd forgotten how good real rock is when we are fed a constant diet of 'popstars mush' nowadays. My wife Sharon went to both concerts and she doesn't normally like rock (she's a Motown gal), but in reality she hadn't heard it played this well and at a proper volume, and she came away a converted fan from last night's concert. I've noticed that one or two reviews have been having a bit of a dig at Don Airey so I thought I might redress the balance a bit. As an ex-keyboard player myself I thought his performance was great. Yes, he is different to Jon Lord, but so is Steve Morse to Ritchie Blackmore or Ian Gillan to David Coverdale. The band is more than any one person, it's about producing a signature sound and style to stand the test of time. 30 years on the group can still fill a concert hall in most places in the world and this is an incredible acheivement in music. I hope they tour the UK next year.
