Lord to remember

Having witnessed the band at Brighton in February of this year I was really looking forward to this one. My only hope was that big Ian's voice was OK. Boy was I not disappointed. The whole evening, including the excellent Planets was something to remember.

I took my 16-year-old son, who also came to the Brighton gig and he could not believe that the boys could put on such a rip snorter of a show. From Fireball through to Highway Star this musical genius was at work.

Don Airey was superb on keyboards and will be an excellent addition to the band, his keyboard solo including the odd sea shanty was perfection, however the seamless handover to the keyboard God, the mighty Jon Lord was the stuff of legends. Jon could do no wrong and if that is the last time (and I pray that it is not) that I watch the great man perform live, then Jon here's to you mate, retire and live in peace, you've given me 30 odd years of brilliant memories, both live and on record.

Back to the show, the highlights for me were When A Blind Man Cries and Perfect Strangers. However Roger's solo during Speed King was awesome. Child In Time would have been nice but that's being picky.

Let's have the new album soon guys and please leave Well Dressed Guitar as is when you record it, this is Steve Morse at his supreme best.

All in all a great night - here's to next year and some more dates please.

Peter Stokes
