Snake on Purple It's not often a gig amazes or excites these days but last night Deep Purple blew me away. Why? Because after months, no, years of being on the road here was a band clearly enjoying every minute of what they do, delighting and teasing a capacity audience for almost two hours. You know the set list, you know most of the jokes, but tonight we got an extra treat, the presence on stage of one Bernie Marsden. As a fan of early Whitesnake, seeing Bernie trade licks with Steve Morse was excellent and the thunderous version of SOTW that followed clearly delighted band and audience alike. After all that once again Jon Lord got an exceptional reaction from the Bristol crowd and this show was a fitting (near) end to Jon's involvement. A moving evening. As one punter screamed from behind me when Bernie came on, "This is f**king excellent!"
