Friends reunited Perfect Setlist? The last time I saw them live was around 70/71, so a setlist that was primarily classic 70s was perfect as far as I was concerned.... including every song I really wanted to hear - Fireball, Woman From Tokyo, Lazy, Space Truckin', Speed King, Smoke, Black Night, Highway Star (and Hush from the 60's which was a huge bonus). Perfect setting? Absolutely the best way to see DP - just 1,700 people in the intimate setting of a civic hall (perfect memories of the way it used to be when all 'big name' bands toured the Town Halls of most British cities - no arenas then!). Perfect audience? Many of us seemed to be of sufficient age to actually go back the full 30 years for the night... and we behaved as if those intervening years didn't exist, headbanging with little or no hair... how wonderfully absurd. Perfect performance? Yes, awesome, powerful, solid and looking as if they were enjoying it as much as we were. Perfect gig? Certainly amongst the best I've ever seen - and believe me, I've seen a few. Perfect strangers? No. More like meeting up with a few old friends after a long while and having a really great time. Thanks lads(!), see you again sometime.
