No mirror balls? This time my large mates arrived in time for plenty of pre gig lubrication in the fine surroundings of St. George's Hall. Lots of memories here of Gillan, Whitenake and previous Purple gigs. This was without doubt the best performance I have seen from Purple for some time. Standing mid-way back at the epicentre of the PA you could remember why this was once the loudest band in the world. The sound was incredible pin sharp - everything audible and satisfyingly trouser shaking. Highlight for me was a dynamic punchy version of Space Truckin', complete with dubious star spangled backdrop - lost the mirror ball from 1973, lads? Would it be highly inappropriate to ask for an old Gillan medley? Would love to hear No Laughing In Heaven again. See you at the NEC and thanks for keeping it all going - what a great band to follow over the years.
