Slovenian round-trip There were 50 of us at Deep Purple's show in Heidenheim on 31st of August. We came from Slovenia and it took us almost 12 hours (700 km one way) on the bus. Thanks to Concert Freak Agency, which organised our tour to the concert. Dio was great as support, just like Black Sabbath would have been. But then - Deep Purple rocked. Everything was just perfect and amazing - they were playing nothing but big hits, most importantly Speed King and Woman From Tokyo. As I recall, they also played Hush, Black Night, Smoke On The Water, Highway Star, When A Blind Man Cries, Perfect Strangers, Ted The Mechanic and maybe some more, plus one brand new song - an instrumental with amazing Don on keyboards. I've been to more than 50 concerts and I think DP had simply the best sounds on this one - it was loud, loud like hell, but you could hear absolutely everything - Roger on bass, Ian on drums, Don on keyboards, Steve on guitar and Ian's voice - in every detail. You just can't imagine how Smoke On The Water is live with all the instruments sounding perfect, with drums and bass booming in - gates of delirium! Don Airey on keyboards is absolutely amazing. He took solos on practically every song plus a very long solo. And what a solo - for five minutes he played bits of Bach, Mozart, Star Wars and God knows what, with unbelieveable speed and technique (and loud!). In my opinion - Gillan, Glover, Morse, Paice and Airey is the best Deep Purple line-up ever. I can't wait to hear Paice and Airey do their own show in Austria on Sep. 28. One of my friends was in Venice, Italy earlier this year where they played a tribute to Jimi Hendrix. A must-see. Photos from our trip to Heidenheim Keep on rockin'.
