Shades of Ritchie We left early due to expected traffic-jams around the 'Rurpott', so we arrived fairly early - and we were lucky: Nowhere on the ticket was it clear that more bands were playing, so we were really surprised by The Planets performance. Although the sound was not good it showed good musicians with a mix af classic/rock/jazz performance: cool. Then Dio arrived onstage and having respect for the man it was really disappointing to hear that most of the show were old Rainbow songs indicating that Ritchie up till today has a major influence on publicity. A lack of fresh and brilliant ideas? Other than that the show was OK. Not more than that. Deep Purple entered with Don Airey and drove a really good show. Although there were too many old songs (again, Ritchie's songs). Perhaps this was to get Don some routine, but please guys, it was too much old stuff. However, it was amazing to see how popular the old songs are: the crowd was really enthusiastic even when rain flooded the place for some 30 minutes. Steve has done a very good job over the past seven years and is really accepted and respected by a lot of fans - me too. He deserves more of the late Purple songs. See you next time and Paice: you are the greatest. Peter Bongers, The Netherlands
