Albuquerque Kings
We went to see Deep Purple last night at Journal Pavilion in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was a beautiful evening, and they came on right after sunset. They started off with Highway Star and went on to do an amazing set.
I have been a fan since I got my first Deep Purple album, Machine Head, in 1973. The band really connected with the audience on a soul level (or at least that's how I felt!). From the haunting sounds of the keyboards, the technical wizardry of Steve Morris [Steve Morris plays with Gillan, Steve Morse plays with DP. Rasmus], and the magical vocals of Ian Gillan I was lifted to a level beyond what I have experienced while seeing most live bands.
After seeing them in Albuquerque I am now thinking of driving to El Paso to see them, and then maybe Red Rocks. If you have the opportunity to see them I say stop reading this, get on the internet and buy some tickets now!
