300 miles of Highway Star

I have been a fan for many years but this is the first time I've seen the band live. They may be slightly over 45 but they played their hearts out for over two hours. Even at the end Ian Gillan was still bouncing about like a man half his age.

They could have played a greatest hits show and take the money, but to their credit they surprised everyone with the set they played. Opening with my personal favourite Woman From Tokyo, they were note perfect from the start and enjoying themselves. We got Ted The Mechanic, a great version of Mary Long, No One Came and Fools.

Steve Morse is an excellent guitar player (even though me missed the intro to Lazy) - I even forgot that Mr B was no longer with them. Child In Time got a standing ovation, Mr Gillan hitting all the notes. When A Blind Man Cries brought the house down.

The new song they played was good - can't wait for the album. The end, what can I say? Rock's national anthem Smoke On The Water, Speed King and an encore of Hush and Highway Star. They did leave out Black Night so the crowd sang it as they left.

Great show from a truly professional and entertaining band. Until next time. You made the 300 mile journey worthwhile.
